Silvia Cattori: Gilad Atzmon answer to his AZZ detractors

Last October I learned from the Jerusalem Post [1] that notorious Zionist Alan Dershowitz and the dubious ADL’s Abe Foxman were desperate to stop my new book “The Wandering Who”. [2]

I was also informed about a very similar attempt in France. Two alleged Jewish ‘anti’ Zionist organizations- the U.J.F.P. (French Jewish Union for Peace) and I.J.A.N. (International Jewish Antizionist Network) mounted substantial pressure on a pro Palestinian website because he dared to publish my interview [3] with Silvia Cattori.

Interestingly enough, Zionist Dershowitz and Foxman used exactly the same tactics as the alleged ‘anti’ Zionist U.J.F.P. and I.J.A.N. They defamed, spread lies and circulated unsubstantiated accusations.

Clearly, this can be easily explained, Zionists Dershowitz, Foxman, U.J.F.P. and I.J.A.N. are basically one. At least from a Jewish political perspective, there is not much difference between rabid Zionists and some Jewish ‘anti’ Zionists. They may disagree on some minor topics but they certainly agree on the most fundamental issues- they all identify politically as Jews.

Like the Jews only state, both Zionist and Jewish ‘anti’ Zionists operate under a Jewish banner. This is why more and more of us regard some elements within the Jewish ‘anti’ Zionists as AZZ (anti Zionist Zionists).

My book, “The Wandering Who”, elaborates on this unique continuum between rabid Zionist Dershowitz and the AZZ. Judging by the level of hysteria performed by both Zionists, U.J.F.P and I.J.A.N, we are entitled to assume that the book has managed to hit the most sensitive nerve exactly where it hurts.

So far the book has been endorsed by the most distinguished academics, writers and humanists in our movement [4]. It has been praised on every dissident outlet around the world.

It is also obvious to every person who reads me that there is not a drop of racism, bigotry or anti Semitism in my writing. In my entire career as a writer, I have never criticized Jews as people, ethnicity or race. I also do not criticise Judaism. But, I do allow myself to scrutinize Jewish ideology and culture. I argue that if Israel defines itself as the ‘Jewish State’ and it drops bombs on civilians from airplanes decorated with Jewish symbols, it is our moral duty to question what ‘Jewishness’ is all about.

Ezra MacVie The Wandering Who: A Study of Jewish Identity Politics-Book Review

The Wandering Who by Gilad Atzmon

In a way, this latest book by Israeli-British saxophonist-commentator Gilad Atzmon is a case study. It is a study of the situation of mastery by a Zionist cabal over the foreign policies of the United States and the United Kingdom and of the critical centers of public opinion that guide these policies. What makes this subject a case is the broader conception of Jewish-led enterprises as a sort of evolved parasite first infesting, then controlling institutions and structures of human organization generally, going back to hosts as ancient as the Roman Empire. Whenever and wherever systems of human order and power have developed to a scale that justifies the effort, strategic networks organized and staffed largely by Jews have sprung up to move matters in the directions that favor them (the major exceptions to date seemingly confined to East Asia). This applies not only to empires and republics, but to dictatorships, kingdoms, professions, labor unions, media, banks, and supra-national organizations—wherever power of any sort intersects organization of any kind.

The case Atzmon delineates in 202 trenchant, eminently readable pages is a beast in whose belly—Israel—he was born and raised, up to and including a stint in the vaunted Israeli Defense Forces, in which the future saxophonist’s billet was in a military band that he reports played as badly as possible in order to keep its future workload to a minimum. But Atzmon’s experiences were not limited to blowing the horns such as those with which his ancient forebears reduced the walls of Jericho. He also witnesses numerous cases, described in this book, of cruelty and murder visited by his comrades-in-arms on their hapless opponents, the natives of the Palestine that Israel is relentlessly swallowing up in the finest traditions of the ancient Roman and all succeeding empires.

Two People, One Hummus

By Gilad Atzmon

A talk given in Toronto at The Islamic Society of York, Canada 24.2.12

I was asked to talk to you today about the on-going dispute within our ranks between those who support the One State Solution for the Israeli Palestinian conflict, and those who advocate Two States for the two people.

Interestingly enough, this is a topic I hardly comment on, and not because I am short of vision, opinion or ideas, but rather because I do believe that the fate of the people in Palestine and Israel should be decided by the Israelis and the Palestinians themselves. I, for instance, fail to see what qualifies a NYC Jewish academic or activist to determine how people should live in Palestine or anywhere else. Furthermore, I have never seen a Palestinian trying to advise Western solidarity activists how to run their life. I argue then, that our ‘interventionist’ enthusiasm to preach to others on how they should live is actually slightly pretentious.

But the subject is obviously deeper: in spite of the fact Israel is an organic sovereign State -- it is already recognised as a one State by the nations, it has a single sewage system, one electric grid, one pre-dial international code -- many Western world leaders insist that it should actually be divided into two. But don’t you think that it is pretty unusual for the ‘international community’ to blindly follow the Zionist ideology and draw a racially inspired line between the two people on the land?

So, rather than entering an endless and futile debate here, I propose that we should begin from a point at which we all agree: I presume that we all accept that Israel is currently a one State, yet it is dominated politically and spiritually by an ethnocentric discriminatory political system.

Israel defines itself as the Jewish State and the practical meaning of it is pretty devastating. It is racially driven. Israeli laws favour the Jewish population over the indigenous people of the land. Israel is impervious to universal and ethical thoughts. It is basically set to serve one tribe at the expense of the people of the land.

Dershowitz employs new and comical tactic.

By Nicholas Urie

http://www.nicholasurie.com

(Reminder: I’m commenting on this not a a member of the Friends family, but as someone who arranged the music for the concert, which was awesome. I am really proud of the band’s excellent hard work, Gilad’s wonderful playing, and the audience, who made the show feel electric. You can see the concert footage here: http://www.nicholasurie.com/news/?p=693)

I have to comment on Alan Dershowitz’s new epic from today’s Jerusalem Post, Friends Seminary plays bait, switch on anti-Semitism. In the article, Dershowitz continues his campaign of bullying and misinformation reaching new and even more spectacular heights. In my last two responses to the Friends-Dershowitz saga,Alan Dershowitz, neo-McCarthyite,” and, Wall St. Journal Ignores Dershowitz’s History of Attacks in, “School Hits Sour Note.” I laid out some of the tactics employed by Mr. Dershowitz in his effort to smear Friends Seminary and its faculty, staff, students and parents.

Mr. Dershowitz has taken his McCarthyist shenanigans to a new level, with the manufacturing of “evidence” from whole cloth in an effort to add pressure to a situation that was clearly winding down. Until this point, his tactic had been simply to distort things so heavily that they were almost unrecognizable to anyone actually involved. By knocking the corners off of what was real, he was able to stir a tremendous amount controversy, knowing that people are often gullible to the brand of manipulation that mixes falsehoods with truth. As Mr. Dershowitz has discovered, these tactics will only take you so far. People start to see through manipulations of this kind, as Bo Lauder, the Principal of Friends Seminary has done, evidenced by his rescinding Mr. Dershowitz’s invitation to the school.

Zionist Immoral Intervention

Alan Dershowitz

Alan Dershowitz - Zionut extrordinaire

Alan Dershowitz is whining again, this time on the pages of the Jerusalem Post.   Apparently The Friends Seminary of New York which assigned its students to read my papers and invited me to attend a class,  has made it clear to Israeli ethnic cleanser apologist that he was not welcome in its premises.

Dershowitz Admits Defeat

In short, Dershowitz admits total defeat. The Quaker school that was “unwilling to cancel Atzmon’s appearance” made it clear to the Zionist supremacist that he was unwelcomed.

This is not the first time Dershowitz is hurt by me being welcomed while he is spitted out. Yet, I am puzzled by the fact that Dershowitz is so keen to share his humiliation with the public. Normal people tend to hide such an embarrassing developments.  Dershowitz may have well developed a close affinity to himself being a victim. This tendency is indeed symptomatic within the Jewish identity discourse and Jewish culture. It is there to stop self-reflection.  Rather than looking in the mirror Dershowitz celebrates self-pity hoping to buy some empathy amongst his supportive Jewish crowd. It reminds me an old Jewish joke. Why don’t Jews drink? Because it numbs the pain. Dershowitz, is not going to hide or let the pain fade, he would actually make it into his flag.

The ‘Jewish Messiah’

http://haroonhaider.com

Gilad Atzmon, an Israel-born Jew, who has been championing for a single democratic Palestinian state for Muslims, Christians and Jews for years. He openly shows his hatred of Zionists and the so-called ‘anti-Zionist’ Jews – because he believes both of those groups are two-faces of the same coin – working for the occupation of Palestine.

Gilad Atzmon

The Jewish Lobby’s re-action to his new book ‘The Wandering Who: A study of Jewish Identity Politics‘ has proved that Gilad Atzmon could be the only Jew who unifies the Zionist horde while among the Gentile, it’s Iranian President Dr. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. In reviewing Giad Atzmon’s book – Shahram Vahdany called Gilad ‘King of Jews’. Read the review here.

It seems as if the Zio-cons on both sides of the pond are now in a state of panic – In an obviously orchestrated attack, the  Zionist mouthpiece  The Jewish Chronicle of London,  the Islamophobic Award winning  ‘Harry’s Place’ and the ex-Israeli concentration camp guard Jeffrey Goldberg, all launched a typical Hasbara smear & intimidation  campaign, in which they labeled both Professor Mearsheimer and myself anti Semites. I was also called a ‘neo Nazi’, a ‘Hitler apologist,’ a ‘Holocaust denier’ and a ‘hatemonger’,” writes Gilad Atzmon.

UN Special Rapporteur for the Occupied Palestinian Territories Professor Richard Falks calls The Wandering Who a kind of diary of Atzmon’s journey from a hardcore Israeli nationalist to a de-Zionised patriot of humanity and a passionate advocate of justice for the Palestinian people. The metaphor of a journey, which pervades the experience of the Jewish Diaspora, is apt — it even seeps into the title.

Gilad was recently interviewed by Eric Walberg, published in Egyptian daily Al-Ahram.

When asked if Atzmon agrees with Iranian President Ahmedinejad in his speech to the “World Without Zionism” conference in 2005 that “this regime occupying Jerusalem must vanish from the page of time“? Gilad replied: “I am certain that political discourse is not going to bring a change. I am afraid to say it, but I think Israel is in a bad way and its supportive crowd isn’t much better“.

In his new book Gilad writes: “Within the context of Jewish identity politics and ideology, history doesn’t play a guiding role. Zionists and Jewish ‘anti’ Zionists alike insist that circumstances made the Jews into what they are. I do not buy it. The emancipation of European Jewry started two hundred years ago with the French Revolution. And as we can see the Jewish conditions didn’t change much. Also, Israel, which was supposed to be an exemplary case of Jewish proletarian rebirth, is in fact a hard-capitalist hell.

Gilad told Eric Walberg: “The difference between the Jewish tribal ideology and other tribal concepts is that Jewish tribalism is an exilic concept. Judaism as we know it was formed in the Babylonian exile. Jewish tribalism became a template of negations. It is there to alienate the Jew from his surrounding reality. Jewish tribalism is imbued with hostility toward others and otherness. Jewish-ness can be celebrated without God or the Torah, but one thing is clear, the exilic conditions always remain intact. Most importantly, the Jewish Question cannot be resolved as long as Jews fail to overcome the exilic mindset. The exilic mindset aspires to Zion. It is detached from its surroundings while in the Diaspora, and once in Zion, the exilic identity collapses completely since its raison d’etre vanishes. In other words, Jews are locked in a limbo; their identity complex cannot be resolved.”

Israel’s treatment of Palestinians is now widely compared to Nazi Germany’s treatment of Jews. Gilad does not pussyfoot in explaining this: “Stupidly we interpreted the Nazi defeat as a vindication of the Jewish ideology and the Jewish people; however, Jewish ideology and Nazi ideology were very similar. In some respects Israel is far worse than Nazi Germany. Israel, for instance, regards itself as a democracy, and as such, its brutal policies are accurately reflecting the will of the people. The latest polls show that the majority of Israeli Jews support ethnic cleansing of the Palestinians. 94 per cent of Israelis supported the carpet bombardment of Gaza at the time of Operation Cast Lead.

Atzmon criticises those anti-Zionists who blithely compare Israel to apartheid South Africa or other colonial regimes. “Zionism, colonialism, and apartheid are there to mislead. Israel is the product of Zionism but it isn’t driven by Zionism. Israel is not a colonial state either. It may be a settler state but it lacks a mother state. And Israel is not exactly apartheid, though it has many apartheid symptoms. Apartheid is a system of exploitation of the indigenous people. Israelis prefer to see the indigenous gone. The above terminology is there to maintain dogmatic Marxism’s relevance within the discourse. But the contemporary left discourse has basically lost any relevance within our intellectual discourse. It needs an immediate facelift.”

The Jewish Question and Racial Oppression today

Palestinian Prisoners of Israeli Army

One reason why the years-long controversy over Gilad Atzmon has generated such rancour, and why conflicts related to it such as the recent purge of ‘anti-semites’ from the Palestine Solidarity Campaign have been so bitter, is because they threaten to re-open the Jewish question. There was a time when the Jewish question was a matter of considerable debate and public controversy among those seeking greater democracy and social and economic equality. Witness Marx’s celebrated essay The Jewish Question, among many others.

It was of course, also a subject of dispute among those with the opposite aims as well. But since WWII the Jewish question has not really been explored as previously. It is as if the Nazi genocide set a seal on it and made it one of those questions that had been ‘decided’, notwithstanding controversies around Israel which often involved major debates but which were ultimately considered to be something confined to the Middle East region. But now the decline of Israel’s moral authority, and the threat it poses to ‘world peace’, and crucially the nature of its worldwide support, means the Jewish question must be addressed again.

Hasbara for Dogs

PSC attack dogsApparently, dogs in California have a new source of entertainment: a TV channel run by a former Israeli Army propagandist. The Arab Digest reported today that an Israeli company launched a new TV Channel for Dogs in San Diego; the Executive chairman, Yossi Uzrad, was executive producer of the Channel 2 news company and the head of the news desk at the IDF radio station in Israel. In a nutshell, an Israeli army propagandist is running a Dog's TV channel. The Arab Digest rightly wonders whether it is safe to let America’s dogs to be subject to an Israeli propaganda channel. The show may lead some dogs to invade their respective homes and expel their human family members from their doggy promised land.

Dershowitz strikes back -- with lies (yawn)

http://thehasbarabuster.blogspot.com

So there was this BDS conference held at Pennsylvania University -- one of the Ivy League institutions. Myself, I'm a fence-sitter with regard to Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions -- I don't boycott Israeli products as such (although if I knew that they were made in the occupied territories, I would), while I think that divesting from Israeli companies makes sense only in certain specific cases. I'm more comfortable with the idea of sanctions.

In any case, this BDS event was organized at UPenn and, as might be expected, lots of Israel firsterssupporters rallied to organize counterevents that brought much larger attendances. This is not surprising since BDS is taking its first infant steps in the realm of mainstream discourse.

One of the anti-BDS events was a speech by the ineffable Alan Dershowitz. Under the headline Dershowitz strikes back, the StandWithUs site provides a raving review of the Dersh's presentation which, as can be predicted, consists basically of a regurgitation of tired Hasbara points. Of a somewhat higher interest is the Q&A, and in particular this exchange with a student:

During the question-and-answer session after the Annenberg presentation, one female student asked, "If an Arab student comes up to me and says, 'You took my land,' and I respond, 'Yeah, but we support gay rights,' how does that add up?"

Dershowitz said the answer is that the Jews didn't steal the land.

"The land on which Israel was established had a Jewish majority," he said. "In Israel's case, they bought the land, in this case from distant land owners, who lived in Syria and Lebanon. The Israeli policy of the yishuv was never to throw indigenous Arabs off the land.

"Israel's birth certificate is cleaner than the birth certificate of almost any other modern country in the world," he added. "Israel was established by law."

Israel better forget about attacking Iran

By Gilad Atzmon

F15 refuelling

Israeli Ynet admitted today that an Israeli air force attack on Iran is unrealistic.

The Israeli paper quoted a New York Times article that described such an attack as ‘highly complex operation’. It would require at least 100 planes.  Israeli jets would have to refuel in the air en route, fight off Iran’s air defenses and attack multiple underground sites simultaneously.

American military experts seem to agree amongst themselves that Israel doesn’t necessarily has the means to accomplish such an operation.

David Rovics: Khader Adnan, Bobby Sands

Khader Adnan grew up near Jenin City
You could say he was a product of his time
Ever since he was a kid he'd get arrested
Though he was never charged with any crime
Spending half his life in prison
A life lived like so many of his friends
Arbitrary and indefinite detention
Never knowing if your jail time would end
Khader Adnan was arrested last December
Again he wasn't told the reason why
He was shackled, he was beaten, he was tortured
There beneath the Middle Eastern sky
Perhaps there was a moment when he realized
That right then, with his body, he'd say no
But from then on he refused to eat another meal
Like in Belfast not many years ago

Tribalism, Racism and Projection – Part 2

David the 'anti racist'

By Gilad Atzmon

2nd part of two – In this part  I explore the misleading role of Jewish politics (both  Zionist and anti Zionist) within the 'anti racist' campaign.

To read the 1st part click here.

Racism is a big word with some very bad connotations.  Being accused of racism is one of the most hurtful and potentially damaging labels around. And yet, how many ‘racists’ really think in ‘biological determinist’ terms? How many ‘racists’ out there really think in terms of ‘genes,’ or even ‘skin colour’? I guess not that many.

While acknowledging that racism had a significant cultural, and politically lethal impact between the late 19th century and the middle of the last century, in today’s politics, the word ‘racism’ is often misused, mistakenly used, or in some cases, consciously used to mislead and even to silence.

Though discrimination against minority groups is unfortunately common and totally unacceptable, it is not necessarily always motivated by crude racism. Islamophobia, for instance, is commonly regarded as a contemporary manifestation of racism but I would challenge such an understanding. Islamophobia, I contend, is not driven by racism, but rather, it is actually a crude symptom of intolerance -- xenophobia manifested as hatred, bigotry and discrimination. My English Muslim convert friends are often subjected to abuse by Jewish campaigners (both Zionist and ‘anti’ Zionists) and the English Defence League -- but not because of their ‘genes’, ‘biology’ or the colour of their skin, but rather because they are ‘different’; because they challenge Western value system and because they oppose Israel and its lobbies. Clearly, they are perceived by some as a 'public enemy' but that reaction cannot always be understood solely as ‘racism’ per se.

Similarly, it is beyond doubt that it is not easy to be black in ‘multi cultural’ Britain. Being a jazz musician I see first hand how my black friends are often treated in this country and I see plenty of evidence of institutional anti-black bigotry. I read about black youngsters being stopped and searched by police between one to four times a day. This is unacceptable and clear evidence of discrimination.

But is this really always about racism? Is it driven solely by ‘biological determinism’? Is it really about ‘genes’, ‘blood’ or ‘skin colour’?  This is indeed an open question and obviously I would not rule out the possibility of anti- black (biological) racism. However, I tend to believe that in contemporary multi ethnic societies, most cases of anti-black bigotry and discrimination are various manifestations of deep, thuggish xenophobic feelings mixed with some examples of deep, and sinister cultural intolerance. In other words, often enough, the contemporary bigot is not concerned at all with biological matters but rather with social constructs and culturally driven symbolism(1).  This is surely a matter of serious concern, and in some case it is driven by murderous inclinations and it must be dealt with, but it isn’t necessarily (biological) racism per se.
